Types of Sleep Studies

polysomnogram overnight sleep study

  • Overnight Sleep Study
  • Each private bedroom at Medical Sleep Solutions features a comfortable bed, a fan, a TV, magazines and snacks. During the overnight study, information is recorded that identify sleep stages and body system performances.  Please note that registered technologists are immediately available to patients throughout the overnight study via cameras and speakers

multiple sleep latency test

  • An MSLT study follows an overnight polysomnogram (PSG). Various factors, including but not limited to caffeine/nicotine intake and sunlight exposure, will be regulated to ensure the accuracy of the study.

maintenance of wakefulness study

  • The Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT) is a way to evaluate the ability to stay awake during the day. An overnight diagnostic sleep study called a polysomnogram (PSG) is usually required the night prior to the daytime MWT.  After the PSG is complete, the MWT testing is spread over the following day.  There are 4 tests spaced 2 hours apart.

After being asked to stay awake, sensors on the head and chest record your brain wave activity, eye movements, muscle contractions, and heart activity to accurately detect if you fall asleep.

CPAP titration study

  • A CPAP study assists the physicians in determining the optimum pressure to relieve your sleep apnea. During the CPAP study, you will be fitted with a mask.  Continuous positive air pressure will be adjusted throughout the night without interruption to your sleep. Pressure is started at a minimum level and is appropriately increased at various intervals throughout the night. By the end of the study, the optimum level of air pressure to prevent the collapse of your upper airway will be determined. This eliminates pauses in your breathing as you sleep.
